Smorgasbord

Well, I had to look up how to spell Smorgasbord and found out it is  "a type of Scandinavian meal served buffet-style with multiple dishes of various foods on a table".  So the next time you use the word - there you have it.
My definition right now is " a motley mix of randomness in my blog post";)
We had a great day of school today.  As I am getting back into the groove I am remembering that this is not as intimidating as it can feel at times.  We sat down after Bible time and I read some science out loud.  I decided ( today :) that all the kids are going to listen to Caleb's science book this year.  The oldest four sat around me and listened and then we talked about what we had read.  After science we read early American history.  Then the three oldest sat around the table with their individual work.  Bailey and Isabella are both working through Explode the Code.  The three oldest boys also have their creative writing notebooks.  This has become a family staple for us.  The goal is for them to each write a page a day (usually about whatever they want to write about) and then we talk about it when they are done. They all have various math and language books as well. The top picture is some of our smorgasbord (look I got the word in twice :D ) of materials I am using.  I am sure they will change up drastically as the year progresses - they always do.  I have been very blessed to have a variety of material to work with because my mama home schooled my sister and I all the way through high school and she kept everything to bless us with.  She also had us not mark in the books.

A trick for any mama's out there who want to preserve their school books - my mama would sometime put transparencies over the page and we would write with dry erase markers.

Thank you so much mama for giving me a head start with my little ones!

These little ones love crafts of all kinds (which of course counts as art).

Finger puppets

I just thought these pictures were funny.  Titus and Isabella rested the baby gate up in front of these cubbies so they could "be captured".

What a cutie eating his lunch :)

Isabella was nice enough to share her robe with the peanut.  It is rather warm for it but I let her walk around for a little while.

There was my randomness!  I hope you are all having a blessed day!

Great post and I also support the idea of not writing in the books! My mom who home schools too uses a copier and copies the pages each day!

Lovely pictures!
